In Haiti, it looks more like an UN troops occupation is in effect instead of protecting the live of the Haitian people. The country looks like a war zone with tanks, heavy artillery, helicopters hovering, machine guns and soldiers aiming and shooting at the population as they see fit. Who are they fighting with? What’s the real mission of those troops in Haiti? Are they there to protect the people? A recent review of crimes committed by the UN troops in Cite Soleil, Cap-Haitien and elsewhere against unarmed civilians prove that their mission translate that Haiti is under a heavy occupation. The question remains who’s really behind this mission? Human rights violation are reported almost daily, alongside the cholera outbreak that claimed the lives to more than 4000 Haitians which led to believe the UN troops from Nepal are responsible for this tragedy. Rumor has it, that a large sum of money were disbursed in order to renew their contract in Haiti. Who were the beneficiaries? How is it possible for a government of a country to sit back and watch the UN troops under the banner of”Peace Keeping” killing and abuse the Haitian people? As if Haitian lives as no value, You can rape, kill, abuse them with no retributions against you. In fact, It’s a human right in today’s world to prosecute anyone who committed crimes against humanity. There should be a commission put in place to investigate human rights violation in Haiti by the UN troops. The new government should call for a reinforcement of the National Police so Haiti can say goodbye to this neo-occupation. The process of immediate withdrawal of the UN troops in Haiti should begin in the short term. This is a major priority on the new government agenda alongside overseas the rebuilding effort of this poor nation with dignity.
